PaperCraft

Couple of months back I borrowed the book 'Papercraft: Design and Art with Paper' from Meenakhshi Mukerji in which few of her origami models are listed. One has to see the book to believe what all can be done with a paper! It gave me so many ideas to execute :) I am far from doing something original with a paper and really like to reproduce something I loved. Couple of ideas I really loved and would like to try my hand on sometime in my life :)

This is by Ferry Staverman - have to try something way more simple than this :)

This is by Jen Stark - way too difficult to try out without proper tools!

A4 papercuts by Peter Callesen - Very cool! Simple things can be tried out :)

So many more ideas are there in the book! I feel like trying out so many of them. And here I agree with my husband Joy, "Too many projects, too little time" :D

Origami dodecahedra

While searching for an origami model I came across this article where the author Anne Ho says “In order to fi nd a structurally stable and aesthetically pleasing modular origami design, I examined various types of units and their links to make regular dodecahedra. With some modi cations on a design by Mio Tsugawa, I created an ideal module.” There are three types of modules as defined by Krystyna Burczyk and Wojciech Burczyk: edge modules, vertex modules, and face modules. Edge modules represent the edges and connect at a vertex. Vertex modules represent the vertices and connect across an edge. Face modules represent the faces and connect on an edge. For example, in the case of a regular dodecahedron, thirty edge units, twenty vertex units, or twelve face units are used. After discussing several points, the author concludes that the Modi ed Arabesque seemed like an ideal unit that is both fairly strong in its links and more aesthetically pleasing.

Origami conference in SF

PCOC 2009 exhibition

Last weekend was a fun and busy one. The whole of the previous week I was excited about the upcoming PCOC: Pacific Coast Origami USA Conference. Thanks to Meenakshi Mukerji, I had quite an experience at the conference. There were so many world-class origami artists. I even got three books signed up Eric GjerdeRobert Lang andMakoto Yamaguchi. And I somehow missed Peter EngelBernie Peytonand Jeremy Shafer. But on the other hand I saw Goran KonjevodBrian Chan and Krystyna Burczyk! I was greatly encouraged by the whole experience!
